Il Biennale Di Venezia

Il Biennale di Venezia

NoċeMuskata was tasked with documenting the fascinating process behind Malta’s pavilion for the 57th Venice Biennale. This pavilion formed part of Malta’s Cultural programme for the Presidency of the Council of the European Union during 2017, and bridged the gap between the Presidency and Valletta as European Capital of Culture in 2018.

The final pavilion, ‘Homo Melitensis: An Incomplete Inventory in 19 Chapters’, the work of artist-curators Raphael Vella and Bettina Hutschek, was received with international press acclaim, and over 100,000 visitors over the summer of 2017.

The documentary, filmed in collaboration with Sharp Shoot Media Ltd, focused on the preparatory works for Malta’s return to the Biennale after almost two decades. Fully embracing the curators’ narrative, the documentary takes the viewer behind the scenes of Malta’s pavilion, and meets the artists who featured within it.
